e-Kanban by Datacraft Solutions replaces Paper for Pacific Scientific HTL

After a year and a half of using the paper fax release system, it was clear that it simply didn’t scale for PS/HTL’s 100-plus suppliers, more than 100 fax numbers over 3500 parts on kanban, and 2000 signals sent each month. With numerous points of possible failure–did a fax get sent? Was it received? Was it legible? Was it acted on?–the system encouraged inefficient behavior all around.

Nintendo Revolution Price

While on my constant search for new Nintendo Revolution information, I came across some articles speculating the European release date and price tag for Nintendo’s next generation gaming console. Of course, this is only a “rumor,” and I have not confirmed the date, or the price in any official capacity.

Amazon France has slipped a page with the European release date and price for Nintendo’s monumental new game console, the Nintendo Revolution.

The tentative release date is listed as June 15, 2006. The total cost after conversion to US dollars, would be approximately $365. European game console prices tend to be a bit priced a higher than in North America, but this still sounds a bit overpriced given the Xbox’s $299-$399 price tag. From what we know so far the Nintendo Revolution will be less technologically advanced than the xbox 360 or Playstation 3.

Based on the GameCube’s 2001 launch cycle–it arrived in Europe six months after it debuted in North America. This leak gives credence to rumors that the Revolution could see a surprise 2005 launch in Canada and the US.

The Technologies That Run Tracking Devices

Tracking devices, also called 6-degree-of-freedom (6-DOF) devices, are defined as technological tools that are used to observe a specific person’s movements by the use of a transmitter to relay radio signals back to a receiver which then enables one to pinpoint the exact location of that particular person.

Global Positioning Satellite, homing devices and cell phones are part of the tracking device technology, and they have all very useful purposes.

GPS, for instance, enables car drivers to have a knowledgeable virtual “companion” that can give out directions and help you be located by the proper authorities if and when you’ve gotten into an accident.

So we all know what tracking devices are and what they could do. But what exactly makes them tick? Such devices are based on electromagnetic, acoustic, mechanical or optical technology.

Mechanical tracking devices can measure orientation and position with the use of a direct mechanical connection between a reference point and the target. The advantage of this type of gadget is that they are accurate and their lag is short. The main drawback is that the operator’s motion is limited to the mechanical arm.

Optical tracking devices use the information contained in the projection of the LED’s to identify the position and orientation of the head.

There come in two kinds: in the first one, cameras are placed on top of HMD’s while a set of infrared LED’s are placed above the head at specific locations in a given environment.

The other type has cameras mounted on a fixed frame with fewer LED’s located at known position on the HMD. These types of tracking devices both have high update rates and short lags, although they usually suffer from line of sight problem.

Electromagnetic tracking devices work by measuring the magnetic fields’ strength generated by sending current through three tiny wire coils, placed perpendicular to each other.

These are then implanted in a small unit attached to the entity the system needs to track. These types of devices can track multiple objects simultaneously although they may experience interference with mechanisms that produce magnetic fields of their own.

Acoustic tracking devices employ ultrasonic sound waves that measure the position and orientation of the entity being tracked. This can be done through time-of-flight tracking and phase-coherence tracking.

The first type works by measuring the time needed to take for the sound sent out by transmitters placed on the target to reach sensors located at specific points.

The second type works by measuring the difference in phase between the sound waves produced by a transmitter on the target and those given off by a transmitter at some reference point.

What I find most interesting to these battle bot groups is that they are literally practicing warfare at a micro-level, using flanking maneuvers, military strategy, modern day theories, and theories of nature and hunting. Why are these groups important? Well for one we have seen them as we have seen those who play computer games such as Mech-Warrior and others become as smart at tactics as those being trained in military history strategy and tactics at West point.

We can learn much from ants also in their bacteria fighting ability, which neutralizes poisons in animals, insects and plants. Which means we could use organic robots and the current species can solve the problems of diseases we are now experiencing.

For instance West Nile Virus. We know that certain caterpillars make noise vibrations which can be picked up by the ants as a communication system. We can use such a vibration to train ants to do what we need them to do. Therefore we do not need to create a system of communication, however using mini network sensors and mini-robots we may be able to it as good or better than the natures version. We can use these for large uses or small uses, for trucks or for mini-bots. If we learn the communication system of ants, well then we do not need weapons for our enemies, because we can have the ants take care of our needs. Even though they not in possession of a large brain, they work as network computer grid. By using these types of systems and communicating strategies we can prevent, create a defense and create an offense strategy in robots and AUVs.

Now Ants work in a NetCentric Warfare strategy, they work in teams and the teams are separate from the whole in a way yet controlled by the central control before and after each mission. It is an anarchy of teams. Let me put it this way. It runs like the FED EX model and theories of Fred Smith explained in his book; The World on Time. You should read the book, especially you should go to the midnight Memphis Sort. Air Cargo usually uses this method, which he created. Each set of ants goes out and scours the area and finds things and then they get together to bring it back. At Fed Ex they have a mission and a goal and everyone has been trained to do the job, Now then, they bring all the packages to the hub like the ants, only now Fed Ex reverses it and uses the same methodology to deliver the packages somewhere else. And like the offensive defense of the nest the ants go out together and attack the predator together. Each one of these groups working together yet separate has their own little groups and teams, just like Fed Ex and again you are going to have to read the book to understand what I am talking about with Mr. Smith’s ideas on Management Theory.

I wonder if this is the natural order of things for all species on the planet and the best idea for those species to work together to be able to serve and exploit niches and accomplish tasks. 5 million years of evolution may have learned more about management than we have in our schools. Perhaps as much as we try we are not being smart about our designs? Organization is the strong point of the ants. Shouldn’t we pay attention? Yes of course. Especially as we create artificial life, artificial intelligence and robots and autonomous vehicles?

Just some thoughts on reviewing the Theory of Movement, Nature and Science and the possible future technologies of Mini-Robots, Motherships, Swarm Strategies as they relate to the future. Since Valentine’s Day will be here in less than a week, I thought it’d be a good idea to talk about love in this newsletter.

Many years ago, Joseph defined love this way:

“The choice to see the divinity in all beings.”

At the time that didn’t make much sense to me. In fact, it made almost no sense. But over the years I’ve come to see the wisdom and the power in that definition.

The very word, “love,” often conjures up so many confusing and conflicting images and feelings in our human minds. Especially in the seemingly chaotic and trying times our planet is experiencing today.

So I asked Joseph to revisit that earlier definition of love from so long ago.

We have often used the term “All That Is” to mean what many of you call God — Goddess — Great Spirit — etc. We prefer the term “All That Is” because it really says it all.

Whatever word or image you have of that divine creative energy, it doesn’t really matter. What does matter is that energy created every being, the entire universe, and every minute particle of that universe.

And that divine creative energy is part of — is the essence of — everything that exists, has ever existed, or will ever exist. In other words, all that is.

God is all that is. It’s that simple.

God is you. God is your beloved family. God is your friends. God is your enemies. God is your pets. God is the animals of the world. God is the plants growing in your garden. God is the food you eat. God is the clothes you wear. God is the country you live in. God is the countries you are at war with. God is the mountains, the hills, the valleys, the deserts, the oceans. God is the sun, the moon, the stars.

God is all that is and All That Is.

If you acknowledge the truth of what we’ve just said, then you must indeed have reverence for all life — yours and those of other human beings. And all other animal beings. All plant beings. And your Mother Earth and the planets, stars, galaxies surrounding your beloved Mother. Even so-called “inanimate” objects have their roots and their sacred beginnings in All That Is, in God.

If you see all creation in this way, friends, you will respect and revere all life. When you acknowledge the value, the sacredness of all life, of all beings, you have truly touched the hand of God.

At that moment of touching the hand of God you will know in your heart, in the very depths of your being and your soul, what it is to truly love.

Love is all there is. Love is all that is. Love is All That Is.

When you see that bright golden divine spark in all life, when you choose to see the divinity in all beings, you will have come home.

That, friends, is the key to all you long for — peace on earth, peace in your hearts. The peace that surpasses all human understanding.
