Hysteric about headache?

Posted at March 31, 2009 by admin

Headaches are one of the most common health grievances of students, adults and even children, Headaches are very common and usually do not point to a serious illness. But even a mild headache can disrupt your daily activities
What actually happens in your body to cause headache?

The skull bones and brain tissues do not have pain sensitive nerve fibers. But muscles of face, mouth, throat, neck, scalp and blood vessels on the surface and base of brain are sensitive to pain as they contain pain sensitive nerve fibers.

The tip of these nerve fibers gets stimulated by various causes like stress, muscle tension, lack of sleep etc. The stimulated nerve tip sends message up the length of the nerve fiber to the related nerve cells of Brain. Brain locates the region of stimulated nerve tip based on these signals and we feel the pain or ache.

The headache may be mild, chronic or severe depending on the underlying cause and pain bearing capacity of the individual.
Our body produces natural pain killing proteins called endorphins. One of the theories suggests that people with low endorphin levels suffer from severe headache and other chronic pains in comparison with people having high endorphin levels.

What triggers headache?

• Anger

• Muscle tension

• Missed meals

• Vigorous exercise

• Sexual excitement

• Infections like Common cold , Flu , Fever , Ear infection ,Tooth infection Sinus infection , Pneumonia , etc

• Coughing – too much coughing can cause a form of traction headache.

• Lifestyle causes Hangover ,Excessive alcohol , Stress , Fatigue , Tension , Tiredness , Excessive smoking

• Dyspepsia

• Eye conditions

• Systemic or metabolic conditions, Hypertension , Thyroid disease ,Anemia , Kidney failure , Uremia

• Brain or head conditions Meningitis ,Encephalitis ,Head injury ,Heatstroke, Sunstroke

• Before, during, or after menstruation

• Hunger

• Medications (Many drugs designed to relieve pain can actually cause headache when the drug is stopped after a period of prolonged use.)

• Alcohol and caffeine withdrawal

• Not getting enough sleep

• Reading for long periods of time or eyestrain

• Doing repetitive work

• Staying in one position for a long time, such as working at a computer.

The same causes of head ache have been explained in Ayurveda also. These causes vitiate all the three doshas (vata, pitta and kapha). The vitiated doshas cause tension, migraine, sinus and other head aches.

Few common types of headache are Tension headache, Migraine headache and sinus headache.

Tension headache: Tightening of muscles of face and neck cause tension headache. It is characterized by a dull ache in forehead or back of head and pain in neck and shoulders which travels to head. Causes like less sleep, stress, reading for a long time, and working in front of a computer for long hours can precipitate tension headache.

Migraine Headache: Migraine headache is caused when blood vessels of head get too much dilated or constricted. Females are more prone to this type of headache than males and migraine tends to run in families.

A person suffering from migraine headache feels like vomiting becomes too sensitive to light, sound and other activities. Few people experience spots or flashes before headache.

Few facts like menstruation in females, caffeine, alcohol, aged cheese, cured meat, stress, change in sleeping pattern, strenuous exercise trigger migraine headache.

Sinus Headaches

A sinus headache surfaces when fluids in the nose are not able to drain well and pressure builds up in sinuses. A cold, dust allergies, dirty or polluted water air travel may cause this type of headache.

Sinus headache causes pain in forehead, cheek bones, nose and stuffy nose. The headache increases when face is bent or touched. The symptoms are worse in the morning.

Although headaches are very common, It is recommended to consult a doctor about your headache. Go to an emergency department if any of the following symptoms occur:

• Pain that develops very rapidly

• A change in concentration or ability to think

• A change in level of alertness

• Altered speech

• Weakness, numbness, or difficulty in walking

• Changes in vision

• Headache from an injury or blow to the head

Regular exercise, yoga and meditation reduce the stress levels and keep the tension headache at bay.

Persons of vata type can use hot water bags on aching parts and a hot shower will be of good help.

Persons of pitta type can use cold or ice packs on aching parts and wrap a wet cold cloth around neck.

Home remedies for migraine headache.

Make a note of facts which trigger the headache and also the foods. Try to avoid these . Avoid spicy foods, coffee, tea, alcohol, onion and garlic. Avoid citrus fruits except lemon.

Try muscle relaxation exercises. Progressive muscle relaxation, meditation and yoga are definitely going to help. Relax at least for half an hour everyday by doing your favorite activities like listening to music, gardening, taking hot water bath etc.

Stick to you a regular sleep pattern and get enough sleep but don’t oversleep. Avoid sleeping during the afternoon.

Rest in a dark, quiet room when you feel a headache coming on. Place an ice pack wrapped in a cloth on the back of your neck and apply gentle pressure to painful areas on your scalp.

Home remedies for sinus headache.

• Breathe in warm, moist air.

• Moist the nasal passages with the help of saline nasal spray. A saline spray can be used up to six times per day.

• Do not smoke. If you smoke, quit.

• Avoid second-hand smoke and polluted air.

• Avoid exposure to anything that triggers allergy or sinus symptoms.

• Wash your hands frequently to avoid colds.

Not only will you manage to save money and time by outsourcing your web content development, but you can also make use of the talents and expertise of the Indian web content writers. However, with such a wide range of web content writing services available in India, it’s often difficult to decide which web site content writing service is the best and most suited to your needs. But, with the help of a few tips to keep in mind while considering which web content writing service to choose, the whole task of selection can be made easier.

The first step to an easier decision is to decide your area of focus—you need to decide what will be the purpose of your website and what should be the web content. So you need to ask questions like, who will use your web site and what information will they be looking for? Once you’re sure of what your web page should contain, the next step is to assess the diversity of the web content writing services that you’ve short listed. What are their areas of expertise? How good is their network of web content writers?—these are some of the questions that you need to ask yourself while selecting a web content writing service. Some web content writing services have a narrow band of topics and styles of writing. This is alright provided they can meet your needs.

And to familiarize yourself with their style of writing, it’s a good idea to read some of their previous articles. A glance at the articles of the web content development companies can give you an insight into their quality and style. The website of the web content writing company is an important source of information regarding the company. It can give you a lot of clues on the way the company functions. For example, a well organized website could be a sign that the company is well organized as well. Also, the contents of their web page can give you an insight into their style of writing and functioning.

So, if you’ve not already utilized this wonderful opportunity for outsourcing web content development from India, then you’ve let pass a great business opportunity.

Why A Positive Attitude Helps In Coping With Arthritis Pain – Part 1

Posted at by admin

Think Positive To Relieve Arthritis Pain.

My name is Cathy Posner and I live in Wauchope which is on
the Mid North Coast of New South Wales, Australia. I was
born in 1957 and in late 2004 was told that the aches in my
joints were Rheumatoid Arthritis.

My husband, Ray has a very positive approach to everything
and I guess that has rubbed off on me, so rather than sit
back and let things progress I decided to see what I could
do for myself.

Let me give you an example of Ray’s positive attitude. In
September 2003 he had to have open heart surgery to replace
his aortic valve. We live on 160 acres so before he went
into hospital he slashed a walking track so that he could
regularly exercise when he came out of hospital.

Not only that he left the tractor set up for slashing. Four
weeks after surgery, even though he was not allowed to lift
anything heavier that a 2 liter bottle of milk (about 4
pints) he got the OK to slash the paddocks as long as he did
big easy turns at the end of each run. (Actually I think he
secretly enjoyed having me open the car door for him and
carry the groceries.)

So, as you can see, in his mind there was no way that he
wasn’t going to get back to a normal life as quickly as
possible, but within the guidelines of what the Doctors told
him.

Now when you live with someone like that it’s hard not to
take a positive approach.

How can having a positive attitude help you in your fight
against the pain and difficulties arthritis can cause?

I know some of you already reading this have a positive
approach so please bear with me.

As I was saying Ray’s positive attitude helped him in his
recovery. I don’t know how much pain he was in but I can
imagine it was considerable. After all you don’t have your
sternum sawn in half and rejoined without pain.

In fact for some time he had to clutch a folded towel to his
chest whenever he coughed or went to the bathroom but he
never complained once.

He just got on with life within the restraints set by the
Doctors and in fact even started a new business while he was
recovering.

OK you might ask “how does this relate to me”? I know pain
can be an all consuming, overpowering feeling but you need
to get your mind off it.

If you sit back and wallow in self-pity your days and nights
will drag, you will become depressed (or even more
depressed) and your pain feeds upon itself – your mind
magnifies the intensity of your pain and you feel even
worse.

If this describes you and my comments offend you then I am
sorry but hopefully what I am about to say will be a “wake
up” call for you.

What are the benefits of having a positive attitude? Well to
start with your mind can be trained to focus on things other
that your pain. When it does, your pain is shut out creating
a sense of feeling better. This feeling feeds on itself in
the same way that if you allow yourself to focus on your
pain, it seems to get worse.

Can you learn to have a positive attitude? Of course you
can. If you are still breathing you have the ability to
learn. And really it is not so much “learning” but altering
the state of your mind.

All you need is the desire to help yourself, to get relief
from your pain and overcome obstacles that your arthritis
creates for you.

May I suggest some things you can do?

How is your lifestyle? Do you look after yourself? Your
wellbeing is very important to how you feel and
influences how you think.

Diet and Exercise are important to your overall health. If
you are not eating correctly and doing some exercise within
your limits, you are not helping yourself in your fight to get
arthritis pain relief.

To read more about diet, foods that can help, foods to
avoid and to get some great tips on getting started with
exercise simply click on the link at the end of this article
and then follow the links on the home page.

I recommend you read a book on Positive Thinking. There
are some excellent publications available and most will give
you the tools you need.

Sit down and relax. Think back to when you didn’t have the
inconvenience and pain of arthritis. Pick a point in time
when you were doing something that you enjoyed.

Now focus on that thing. Experience it again. Feel the
emotion associated with it. Live it. Breathe it. Be there –
in your mind be that person that you were then.

Do this 2 or 3 times a day for 5 to 10 minutes at a time.
Tip: if you sit down and find you go to sleep, try standing
up.

This technique helps to reprogram your subconscious to think
“pain free” and you should find that your pain decreases or
may actually “go away”.

You can also use this anytime your pain starts to get the
better of you. Just go back to that time when you were pain
free and allow your mind to again experience that feeling.

This really works. But don’t just do it once – you must do
it every day, without fail and you will soon see the
benefits.

Healthy Hair Vitamins

Posted at March 29, 2009 by admin

There a number of different specific hair vitamins and minerals that can play a major role in helping a person have a healthy head of hair. If a person does not have sufficient hair vitamins then the deficiencies can lead to thinning hair or even total baldness in the most severe cases. The fact is that the state of a person’s hair reflects the overall condition of their body. Extra hair vitamins are likely to be needed if a person is generally unwell or is undernourished as their hair will show damage too and may even stop growing.

Some of the most important hair vitamins that a person needs to have healthy hair include B6, biotin, inositol and folic acid. The best way to ensure that a person receives enough of these essential hair vitamins are for them to be taken as vitamin supplements. It is not just hair vitamins that are necessary for healthy hair though as there are a number of minerals that are essential, including magnesium, sulphur, silica and zinc.

The most essential hair vitamin is vitamin a but the best form of this is to include in the diet is beta-carotene. This is because the hair vitamin A can be toxic if consumed in large quantities but beta-carotene has no such problems and is converted by the body into vitamin A that can be used to promote healthy hair. Of course, vitamin A is not just a hair vitamin, it is also needed for a number of other functions including normal growth of bones, skin, nails and the protective sheath surrounding nerve fibres.

Protein is another essential hair vitamin. This is because hair itself is essentially protein. The amount of this hair vitamin that a person consumes in their diet can affect the hair directly. If a lot of protein is included in a person’s diet then this hair vitamin will lead to improved hair growth and a far fuller head of hair. However, a person who has a diet that is lacking in this hair vitamin will suffer from thinning hair and slow hair growth.

Of course, it is not just hair vitamins and minerals that are needed to ensure that a person has healthy, strong hair. There are a number of researchers who have found that there are direct links between the overall health of a person and the condition of their hair. If a person is under a lot of stress or suffers from a lack of sleep then their hair is also likely to suffer and it is likely that their diet will not provide enough hair vitamins to counter these effects. Hair vitamin and mineral supplements can be the solution to weak and damaged hair.

Vitamins and Minerals – The Role

Posted at by admin

These important nutrients are essential to good health since they help the body use the energy stored in food. If you eat a balanced, varied diet, vitamin and mineral supplements are probably unnecessary.

A surprising number of people take vitamin or mineral supplements each day as a kind of nutritional insurance – usually without understanding how they work and what they do. Nutrients such as riboflavin, vitamin C, zinc, and many others are essential to good health, but they are no substitute for food. In fact, vitamins and minerals are facilitators that enable the body to make use of the energy stored in food. These nutrients in and of themselves are of little value of the body. Simply taking vitamin and mineral supplements without eating food is like sending in bricklayers to build a wall, but neglecting to supply the bricks.

What vitamins do which is crucial to the normal maintenance of healthy cells, is perform an extraordinary range of functions in the human body. They not only help convert food into useable energy, but they also assist in the manufacture of blood cells, hormones, and the chemicals of the nervous system.

Vitamins are divided into two categories, which are water-soluble and fat-soluble. The four fat-soluble vitamins, A, D, E and K, are absorbed into body fat and may be stored for later use. If taken in excess, however, some fat-soluble vitamins can accumulate in toxic amounts. Vitamin C and the eight B vitamins are all water-soluble meaning that they dissolve in body fluid, and most of the excess is eliminated through sweat or urine. As a result, there is little concern about toxic overdoses although excessive doses of B6 can be toxic.

Minerals play a part in the maintenance of immune cells, in blood coagulation, in the synthesis of oxygen in the blood, in bone formation, and in numerous other functions. Some, such as calcium, phosphorus, and magnesium, are necessary in fairly large amounts. The need for others, known as trace minerals, is much smaller. In fact, although they are present in human tissue, a few of these trace elements play such dubious roles that they are considered nonessential. The essential trace minerals include iron, zinc, fluoride, and copper. Any of these minerals, whether essential or nonessential, is toxic if ingested in sufficient amounts for long enough periods.

How necessary are supplements? For years, controversy has raged between those who believe supplements are necessary and those who say that they are at best a waste of money and, at worst, a hazard to health. With few exceptions (notably vitamins D and K), the human body cannot make its own vitamins or minerals, so they must be obtained from foods. The traditional view holds that a balanced diet will supply all the vitamins and minerals that are necessary to maintain a good health.

The opposing argument for supplements is that many modern diets lack balance. In fact, they are so loaded with processed and refined foods that they cannot provide adequate amounts of essential vitamins and minerals. Furthermore, because many people skip regular meals and instead rely on fast foods, and nutritionally vacuous snacks, supplements may be a necessity. Other proponents of supplements claim that the chronic stress bought on by fast-paced lives can increase our need for these important nutrients.

A Tale of the Inaugural Ski Trips to Chamonix Ski Resort

Posted at by admin

As far back as 1770 the first lodge was opened in Chamonix ski resort. Before this Chamonix France embodied a uncivilized and sturdy agricultural village where people hunted animals and grew their wheat.

Farmhouses at that time were used to breed dairy herds during the summer. Milk was kept by changing it into cheese and butter and stocked in the valley for consumption over the difficult winter times. During the winter the barns were locked up, and all valuables were locked in a liitle shed.

The person who devised the chalet vacation is unknown, however it was likely numerous keen people who recognised a pattern that was novel. For Erna Low it began whilst she was a unhappy graduate who could not visit her folks in Austria as frequently as she liked. So in the 1930’s she gambled and put a ad in the London Times to invite clients on a ski holiday. For only £15 they traveled to and from the village, enjoyed breakfast and dinner and lodging in the solitary inn, and paid for ski gear and lessons. Skiing was difficult , there weren’t any chair lifts, no quick release bindings, just hard leather shoes, however it was so popular that Erna Low carried on taking friends on holidays, guaranteeing she used great chalets and ski instructors.

The chalet vacations in the beginning were very different from the luxuries we have nowadays. In the early days hot water was in short supply, washrooms would be shared by all of the guests, and there was no a cook; the punters needed to help out with the chores. It was a complete lottery as to who may share the lodge for a week, one might be agreeably surprised by meeting brand new acquaintances, or grimaced by the thought of spending another day with unpleasant guests.

Chalets France were later publicized on its extra bonuses. Your own chef, who would serve you cooked breakfast and a plentiful evening meal and even made you a cake, private bathrooms hot water for bathing.

Zimmer Hip Recall Not Healthy for Hip Implant Recipients

Posted at by admin

Numerous individuals who experienced defective hip implants applied in their hip cup replacement surgical processes are determining that there are difficulties that far surpass the conventional expectations for recuperation. These patients are experiencing a lot of extra anguish for lengthier periods of time, required to undergo revision surgical procedures and increased medical expenses, and losing revenue by not being able to work at their regular jobs. Although Zimmer Holdings, Inc. is demanding that that their implant is not possibly flawed and not to blame for the surgical failures, many individuals are filing cases against them and obtaining settlements.

Sometime during October, 2008 Zimmer announced that it had reserved $47.5 million to pay for claims they had filed against them and received. Many physicians aren’t so sure that the zimmer hip implant is not faulty as the company has suggested. In fact, when Zimmer offered on-line training to MD’s in order to instruct them what was supposedly more correct methods for doing the implant surgical operation, roughly 50% of the doctors declined to participate. Thus, the whole situation proceeds to be nerve-racking for everyone involved, but none more than the hundreds of patients who are looking forward to revision surgical process due to the problems with their implant not staying secure and snug in the socket.

These hurting unfortunate people definitely merit some assistance and restitution which unquestionably is why product liability lawyers are encouraging them to initiate the filing of a lawsuit. Zimmer hip implants has been settling some of these claims, too. All The Same, even if the settlement they are being offered seems like it could be a air settlement, in numerous cases patients are deciding too fast and with no provision or allowance being made for ongoing problems if they happen down the road. If they don’t wait to find out what cases are actually going to be worth, people could find themselves paying thousands of dollars out of their own funds when further complications return.

For anyone who realizes they probably have a claim against Zimmer should start peering into it. If you believe you may qualify, you should probably telephone a lawyer to be certain. Look for one that operates countrywide and focuses on processing litigation against malfunctioning medical devices. This law firm has even set up a special section to uncover the details and handle the claims against Zimmer and obtain nice sized settlements for their clients.

If your orthopedic surgeon informs you that you will need to undergo a revision surgical operation to fix your Zimmer Durom hip replacement device, call an attorney as soon as humanly possible.

Natural Therapy to Improve Prostatic Wellbeing

Posted at March 26, 2009 by admin

Medical professionals term an enlarged prostate benign prostate hyperplasia, or BPH. Put simply this entails that the prostate, a mass similar in shape to a walnut situated just below the bladder and wrapping around the urethra, swells and can reduce and maybe even stop urination. The prostate gland grows with maturity and as a result may engender complaints such as urination troubles, a weak flow, and also the retention of urine within the bladder. Frequent micturition during the night and recurrent urinary tract infections can also be produced by prostate swelling.

Enlarged Prostate – Medical and Surgical Solutions

Prostatic enlargement is considered one of the most commonplace problems of males over 60. Current recommendations are that males in their 50’s undergo examination by their personal doctors on an annual basis, regardless of the occurence of any problems, to aid in maintaining improved prostatic health. Seek medical intervention at once if the urine contains blood or if unable to urinate.

Solutions for prostate enlargement can include surgical procedures or medicines. Nevertheless, surgical procedures can lead to further troubles for example impotence and loss of bladder control. What options are recommended?
