New Year – Make the Environment One of Your Priorities

Posted at January 22, 2010 by admin

It’s the time of year for resolutions, good intentions and the chance to try something new. As opposed to going for the usual, more exercise, less fatty foods etc. Why not do something for the Environment this year?
There is a big focus on climate change on an international scale so why not join in? Reducing the energy use in your home or workplace could be a great place to start, maybe walk or cycle to work instead of driving? Also, if you are planning on moving house, or even building your own home, become aware of BREEAM, Part L building regulations and the various recommended standards for sustainable housing.
We all live hectic lives now, but taking the time to walk instead of driving for example, can also massively reduce stress levels, especially if you usually have a rather busy commute. Public transport will also reduce your own personal carbon footprint as well as give you the opportunity to maybe read a book or meet members of your local community.
Having the Environment at the centre of your resolutions for the new year could lead to many new interests and open a whole new world that you never even knew existed. There’s no need to go overboard and become an eco-warrior overnight, but small changes can make a difference and go on to improve the overall quality of your life and improve your general well-being too.
